This past weekend, the Haskins and Mulvaney families returned to Loon for a weekend of relaxation and skiing. We stayed at Deer Park condos, and we had two interconnected condos: A studio and a one bedroom. The studio had a Murphy bed, and surprisingly, nobody tried to close it on anybody else.
Friday night we went to the pool at the clubhouse, and the boys all swam for about two hours. They had a hot tub too, but it was so jacked on chlorine it made your eyes burn.
Saturday, the men took the shuttle over to Loon, and we met up with Tom, Liz and Thomas there. Nancy stayed back to watch Julia for a bit. We started with a warm up on the Little Brother trail, and after a few runs, we jumped on a blue to take us over to the High Speed Quad. The day was beautiful and so the lines were pretty crazy. At the top, we found the Upper Bear Claw Green trail, and we used that for most of the day. It took us right down to the gondola, and we probably did ten runs.
At 2, Nancy and Liz went for a massage and pedicure at The Mountain Club, so Tom was done for the day to watch Julia. Liam had had enough for the day as well; his legs were killing him. Owen, Evan, Thomas and I then went back to the top for a few more runs. By this point, Thomas was doing his kamikaze runs where he just buzzes straight down the mountain. The last time though, he wiped out and did a "flower-plant". His words for "face-plant." We hopped the shuttle back to Deer Park, a long day of skiing behind us. Nancy, Liz and Tom soon joined us after grabbing a mudslide at the Common Man.
Saturday night we went back to the pool, swam, took showers, and then played ping pong in the game room. Julia painted my toenails(and my toes) a nice shade of pink too. Then she painted all of her fingers the same color. Not her nails, but the fingers.
Sunday, Nancy, Liz and Julia headed back to Pelham while the men took on the mountain. We started the same way, although Thomas was a bit nervous after the previous day's accident. we went back to the Bear Claw, and at the bottom, we got to see the ski jump competition that was going on. One girl tried a helicopter, and she ended up getting crossed up. She basically fell 30-40 feet; it wasn't a pretty sight.
The boys found a new trail that on the far side that required us to cut over using a mini blue trail. This trail had a few little "jumps" in it that everyone tried. The first time I tried it was a yard sale - skis and limbs scattered, but I got better. The trail ended with Brookway, a relatively flat narrow green that was easy on the legs.
Owen and I branched out and tried a couple of blues from the peak. At first, it wasn't bad, but then the long, steep hill of Lower Walking Boss back to Camp 3. We both fell once, but we did it! My quads burned like they haven't in years, but it was a good burn. At the end of the day, we did a shorter blue, without incident. I think we're ready to move on.
We piled in the car and headed home. The boys all had a blast, and we can't wait to go again.
